Discipline cover

Todays album is Discipline - the tenth studio album by Janet Jackson.

The ablum was first released on 22 February 2008 in various countries in Europe and has so far spawned the three singles Feedback, Rock With U and Luv with Feedback being the only one to have made much of an impression in the charts so far.

The album itself has so far managed to hit the top spot in the United States and number 3 in Canada but reception elsewhere seems to have been quite lukewarm.

One Cell In The Sea

One Cell In The Sea

Okay, so here we are on the first day after re-launching the station and it's time to reveal the other part of the plan.

Basically, as of now we'll be updating the station far more regularly, idealling introducing a new album every day.

The frightening prospect for us is to somehow write something worth reading every day while remaining relevant. I don't expect to get this right first time so please bare with me while I get up to speed.

I'm not going to make a meal out of this on the first day and will keep it simple by just saying that today's newly introduced album is One Cell In The Sea - the debut pop album from the Seattle born singer-songwriter Alison Sudol, who rather strangely prefers to go by the stage name A Fine Frenzy. Quite odd for a solo artist, but who are we to judge?

Hope you enjoy!

Enjoy the ride

Okay, I promised changes. So here are the changes...

As you are most likely to have noticed by now the site has undergone a major overhall and the name mp3proradio is no more.

So it is with great pleasure I announce the re-launch of mp3proradio as Phonogenics and a higher quality stream broadcasting in the more widely supported mp3 format at 128kbps.

Although we'll be keeping the old URL for the time being our new URL will be phonogenics.com

So as to minimize the disruption we set up a new stream for the higher quality audio. This was so we could upload the newly encoded files without causing too much interruption to the existing station - there's only so much space to work with.

You will need to switch to the new stream to listen in future. The easiest way to find this is to simply click the glowing orange "play" button that appears to the top right of every page.

The mp3proradio stream will remain as it is now for a little over two weeks. Thereafter we'll be substantially downgrading this stream from the current 4gb account to a 200mb account while we direct people to the new stream and disgarding it completely within a few months.

If you wish to continue listening you should act sooner rather than later.

One feature we're particularly pleased with is the track rating system. You can now influence what the station plays simply by rating the tracks as they play. But there's more. If you like a track you can now use the integrated shopping feature to help you find the best deal on the albums we play.

And if you click on any artist name you'll be taken to their own page on our site where you'll get to see which of their albums and tracks we have in our library for airplay and a little further down, what other bloggers are saying about the artist at that moment in time.

There's more to come but right now I'm about half an hour away from the time I usually set these articles to publish and unfortunately had no time to update the station with new tracks. But hey, you are going love it when we do start as we'll be introducing albums like we've never introduced them before.

Just to wet your appetite further, right now I have a backlog of around 70 albums and tomorrow I start uploading them. :-)

Changes, they are a coming...

Just over a week ago we were plunged into a little turmoil.

You see, it has become increasingly clear that the mp3PRO format we broadcast in is essentially defunct as most players only support the mp3 part of the format and never got round to supporting the PRO bit. Sadly this means most people never get to hear just how much better the mp3PRO format is.

Now while we didn't really expect to change the format anytime soon, part of our upcoming plans was to rebrand the station because we felt the mp3proradio name locked us into the mp3PRO format. We at least wanted to do something about this so that we would be ready should a better format become available to us.

Then a little over a week ago a better format did unexpectedly became available to us and a little research showed only a small proportion of stations on the Live365 network presently broadcasted in this format.

We felt we had to take the opportunity to get in early. So for just over a week we've been preparing the new stream and getting some long overdue backend stuff in place especially for it's launch.

Alas we've still got a little way to go but we think when all is revealed you'll like the result. We'll hopefully give you another update in the coming week with further details.
